The ACT Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water are soliciting public comment on the proposed Dickson and Lyneham Wetlands Project.

The Canberra Integrated Urban Waterways team are working with consultants to design the proposed Dickson and Lyneham wetlands. As well as providing water quality improvements and increased urban aquatic habitat, these water features will supply stormwater to irrigate playing fields in Canberra’s inner north.

The Dickson and Lyneham wetlands will be networked with pipes to the two ponds on Flemington Road. The water will be captured in the ponds and pumped to end users requiring the water for irrigation.

The project team includes representatives from the Canberra Integrated Urban Waterways project, the multidisciplinary firm, URS and local landscape architecture practice, Envirolinks.

Dickson

The proposed wetland at Dickson is located adjacent to the concrete stormwater drain on Hawdon Oval, Hawdon St, Dickson. Low flows will be diverted from the drain into a pond system. The pond and surrounds will be planted with a wide variety of locally occuring plants.

Lyneham

The Lyneham wetland will be an on-line pond system. Like Dickson, it will be planted with a diverse range of plant species.
Both wetlands will include seating, informal play areas, viewing spots, pedestrian paths, artwork and shade.
