Crimestoppers: Three youths arrested after residential burglaries (1 April 2010)

ACT Policing arrested three male youths in O’Connor yesterday afternoon (April 1) after a series of aggravated burglaries in that suburb.

Police had obtained descriptions of three teenage males suspected to be responsible for three residential burglaries in O’Connor yesterday. Late yesterday afternoon, a police patrol in Yapunyah Street sighted three males matching those descriptions and carrying backpacks.

The suspected offenders were stopped and searched. Each of the youths was found to be in possession of a hunting knife and two of the three were carrying property, including children’s Easter eggs and an Apple Mac laptop, which had been stolen during the burglaries.

The three males, two aged 16 and another aged 15, all from Canberra’s north, were taken to City Police Station, held in custody at the ACT Watch House, and interviewed. The juveniles were later released into the custody of their parents. Likely charges of aggravated burglary, possession of a knife in a public place and possession of stolen property will be prepared and the alleged offenders summonsed to appear in the ACT Childrens Court on a future date.
