Section 63 (City) Estate Development Plan: Development Application open for comment (closing 9 September 2009)

ACTPLA have notified that development application 200915210 for an “Estate Development Plan” has been lodged by CB Richard Ellis for portions of Section 63 and is currently open for public comment until 9 September 2009. North Canberra Community Council reminds the community that individuals are entitled to inspect, lodge comments and make their own representations on this development application.

Dickson Centre Planning Project – Initial public workshop (25 August 2009)

ACTPLA has engaged external consultants Purdon Associates to manage the Dickson Centre Planning Project. The study will guide future urban planning in the Dickson centre. It will include consultation with the community, community groups, business representatives and other stakeholders to develop a vision for the future of centre. The public are invited to attend an initial visioning workshop on Tuesday 25 August 2009. This workshop is open to lessees, business owners, local residents, community organisations, and anyone with an interest in the centre. On Saturday 8th August 2009, The Canberra Times ran an editorial piece titled “Still time to settle ASIO HQ worries”. This piece discusses the politics behind the decision to rush approval of the ASIO HQ building in it’s current location and large scale. Is the Parliamentary Triangle a precinct set aside for Australia’s most important national institutions an appropriate place for the headquarters of a large security intelligence agency, bearing in mind that the imposing building will, after Parliament House, be the largest edifice in the district?
