New Waste Disposal Charges in effect as of 1 July 2009

Territory and Municipal Services logoThe ACT Department of the Territory and Municipal Services has increased domestic and commercial waste disposal charges from 1 July 2009.

This is the first price increase since 2005 and the departmental representatives claim that these new charges reflect the true cost of sending waste to landfill according to ABC News Online

For domestic waste the following charges will now apply

  • A small load of waste (car boot load) will now cost $10.00
  • A medium load (filling a ute or trailer) will cost $20.00 and
  • A large load (up to but not exceeding 500kg total) will cost $30.00

The main recycling and waste disposal facilities in the ACT are:

  • Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre, Mugga Lane, Symonston
    Residential waste accepted: 7.30 am to 5.00 pm
    Commercial waste accepted: 6.30 am to 5.00 pm
  • Mitchell Resource Management Centre, Flemington Road, Mitchell
    Waste accepted: 7.30 am to 5.00 pm

There are also Regional Recycling Centres where you can drop off paper, cardboard, mobile phones, mobile phone batteries, glass bottles and jars, rigid plastic containers, cartons, steel and aluminium cans 24 hours a day and they can be found at the following locations:

  • Scollay St, Tuggeranong
  • Botany St, Phillip
  • Jolly St, Belconnen
  • Baillieu Ct, Mitchell
