ACT Policing: 21-year-old Reid Man faces court on multiple traffic charges

A 21-year-old Reid man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, June 7) on six traffic charges and a breach of bail after he was apprehended by police driving in the inner Canberra area around noon yesterday. Police activated warning lights and siren and attempted a traffic stop on the red Ford Laser in Donaldson Street, Braddon shortly after midday. The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit was engaged. The driver was seen to exceed the speed limit in Elimatta Street and Ainslie Avenue, Braddon, and to ignore two stop signs. Speeds reached around 85km/h. The driver halted …

Crimestoppers: Sexual Assault in Civic (06 June 2010)

ACT Policing is seeking the assistance of the public in its investigation of the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in Civic early this morning (Sunday 6 June). The crime occurred around 2am in the car park near Hobart Place in Civic. The victim was walking with another female when they were approached by up to five males. The female victim was lured away from the group to the car park where she was sexually assaulted by a number of these males. The males were seen to leave the area in a Holden Statesman, possibly white or silver in colour. …

Invitation to Comment – Drug Driving Exposure Draft (closing 24 June 2010)

The ACT Government’s proposed road side drug testing Bill has been released for public comment ahead of its expected introduction in the Legislative Assembly in July 2010. The Road Transport (Drug Driving) Bill 2010 and Road Transport (Drug Driving) Regulation 2010 provides a comprehensive model for addressing drug-impaired driving in the ACT. The Bill gives ACT police new powers to conduct random road side drug tests to detect the presence of illicit drugs such as cannabis, methylamphetamine and ecstasy using an oral fluid screening test. ACT Government Infrastructure Plan 2010

The ACT Infrastructure Plan outlines short and medium-term infrastructure priorities over the next 10 years in a range of categories, including health, education, transport, housing and community services, justice and community safety, land development, and culture and the arts. The Plan also looks at long-term projects such as the Very Fast Train, and discusses the potential for new funding models for major infrastructure. The Plan has been informed by the views of the community and industry, through the Government’s budget consultation strategy, and also through a series of high-level roundtables. World Environment Day in Garema Place, Civic (04 June 2010)

ACT Policing is working co-operatively with other police and government agencies to actively raise awareness of and educate the community about fraud that targets individuals and businesses. Mass Marketed Advance Fee Fraud is most commonly referred to as a “scam”. It targets individuals regardless of age, gender, education or income level. Businesses are also targeted.
