Invitation – Launch of Northside Community Service Report on Social Inclusion amongst Older People (10 May 2010)

Northside Community Service (NCS) will launch the report Breaking Down the Wall: Barriers to Social Inclusion amongst Older Australians in Canberra on Monday, 10 May 2010. Over the past 12 months, NCS has undertaken research aimed at creating a basis of awareness about various issues affecting social and community participation of older people living in Inner North Canberra. The result of this study is a report that examines the nature of social inclusion among people over 60 years, highlights the key barriers to social inclusion and explores gaps in services. Reminder: Daylight Saving Ends – 2am, Sunday 4 April 2010

Before going to bed on Saturday night ensure that your clocks have been set back one hour to allow for the end of Daylight Savings which finishes at 2am Sunday morning. Since 2008, the daylight saving period in the ACT has started on the first Sunday in October and ends on the first Sunday in April. This ensures that the Daylight Savings arrangements are aligned with New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.

Crimestoppers: Images released of assault suspects, Dickson (30 March 2010)

ACT Policing has released several images of suspected offenders sought over the assault of a taxi driver on Cape Street, Dickson on Saturday, February 27. The suspects shown in the images were in a group of three who were refused travel by a 56-year-old male taxi driver due to their level of intoxication and aggression.

ACT Government IrrigationSmart trial

The ACT Government is trialling a new program called IrrigationSmart. The trial will assist 200 ACT residents who have automated (programmable) drip irrigation systems to use their system in the most water-efficient way to maintain a healthy garden. Participants in the trial receive: a visit from an irrigation specialist to assess the condition and effectiveness of their automated drip irrigation system; a written report containing the advice and recommendations made by the irrigation specialist; a FREE rain gauge; and are eligible to apply for a rebate of up to $100 for improvements to their irrigation system or garden’s water efficiency. …

Second-hand Sunday (28 March 2010)

Second-hand Sunday is a free community event that gives everyone an opportunity to give away or collect unwanted but useable items from homes across the ACT. Second-hand Sunday is this coming Sunday 28 March 2010, from 9.00am to 3.00pm Registered participants display a Second-hand Sunday poster at the front of their home along with any unwanted but useable items they want to give away. ACT Policing: Woman arrested for aggravated burglary in Turner (26 March 2010)

ACT Policing has arrested a 59-year-old Lyneham woman for an aggravated burglary in Turner last year. Police will allege that the woman assaulted, bound and gagged an 87-year-old female victim in her own home on the 23 November 2009. The woman then allegedly stole a number of items including the contents of the victim’s handbag and her vehicle. The alleged offender will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday 26 March) charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, forcible confinement, aggravated burglary, take motor vehicle without authority and theft.
