Crimestoppers: Witnesses sought to Dickson robbery (17 November 2009)

ACT Policing is investigating and seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery which occurred last night (November 17) in Badham Street, Dickson. About 7.51pm yesterday (Tuesday, November 17) a man has entered the Swan Asian Grocery store demanding staff hand over money from the cash register. During the incident the male offender has threatened staff by producing a syringe.

Hazard reduction activities (Watson)

The ACT Government is currently undertaking bushfire hazard reduction work at sites throughout urban Canberra. These include Kaleen (along the corridor running through the suburb); MacArthur Hill in Fadden; along Belconnen Way between Benjamin Way and Eastern Valley Way; and in Watson near Aspinall Street.

Adult Community Education (ACE) Grants 2010 – (closing 11 December 2009)

The ACT Government is seeking applications from community organisations to provide adult learning and development activities opportunities in the Territory. Priority will be given to those organisations within the Adult Community Education (ACE) sector. Small community-based groups are encouraged to apply, and partnerships and alliances with relevant registered training organisations are encouraged. Meeting Details for 2010

The next public meeting of the North Canberra Community Council will occur in February 2010 The North Canberra Community Council (NCCC) is the umbrella organization for Resident Associations and Community Groups in North Canberra. The NCCC is the one-stop-shop for Government and the community to communicate. The NCCC is run by volunteers and membership is free. As a resident of North Canberra you are invited to become a member and participate in committee meetings. Public Forum: Youth Debt Forum (24 November 2009)

The ACT Youth Advisory Council will be holding a Youth Debt Forum for young people, parents and the broader community to access information and services relating to youth debt. The forum is an opportunity for young people to access information and discuss issues, ask questions and access service providers. Guest speakers include representatives from the Credit Debit Counselling and Financial Service (CARE), Centrelink and the Salvation Army Financial Service. New Traffic lights for Wakefield Ave intersection

The ACT Government will be installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Wakefield Avenue and Dooring Street in Dickson The Government is investing $822,000 in safety improvements to the intersection, which is adjacent to the ABC’s Canberra Studio. The addition of the new traffic lights would reduce the risk of car crashes and cater for an expected increase in traffic as a result of the redevelopment of adjacent land. Seventy-four crashes were reported at the intersection between 2003 and 2007, four of which resulted in injury. Canberra Pedestrian Forum: November Meeting (24 November 2009)

The Canberra Pedestrian Forum represents and promotes our rights and interests as pedestrians in Canberra, in much the same way that the NRMA, Pedal Power and the Motorcycle Riders Association represent our interests as drivers and riders. Their next public meeting will be Date: 24 November 2009 Time: 17:30-19:30 Venue: Meeting Room 3, Griffin Centre, 20 Genge St Civic. They  will be considering their priorities for the ACT Road Safety Strategy 2011-2016, and whether to re-shape the Forum to maximise its long-term effectiveness at promoting pedestrian interests.
