Report from NCCC October 2009 meeting: ACT Cycling and Pedestrian Networks

On 21 October Russell Yell of Cardno, Eppell, Olsen gave a presentation to the North Canberra Community Council (NCCC) on a review being undertaken on ACT cycling and pedestrian networks. The review of Canberra’s commuter bicycle network is part of the Sustainable Transport Action Plan. One of the main priorities of this review is to ensure there is an equal emphasis on the needs of commuter cyclists, recreational cyclists and pedestrians, including visually and mobility impaired people.

Crimestoppers: Identity of offender sought after indecent assault – City (5 October 2009)

ACT Policing is investigating an incident which occurred on Monday October 5, when a woman was grabbed on the breast by an unknown man. The assault occurred in The Canberra Centre around 3.20pm outside the Vodafone store, as the 25-year-old victim was walking past the offender.

Monash Drive to be removed from the National Capital Plan

Multiple local news sources are reporting that the National Capital Authority is expected to announce that Monash Drive will be taken off the National Capital Plan. If removal was recommended by the NCA there would be a period of public consultation before the removal is officially gazetted. The North Canberra Community Council recently made a submission in response to the Australian Heritage Village, Watson development application (DA 200915605) The key recommendations from the NCCC submission are that the Development application should be rejected on the grounds of problems identified in the following areas: Apparent improper process Traffic impacts.
