Crimestoppers: Witnesses sought to theft of photographic equipment – Dickson (31 July 2009)

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an incident Friday, July 31, 2009 in which a Mazda vehicle parked in Dickson had been broken into and photographic equipment valued around $25,000 stolen from it. The vehicle, a Mazda Tribute, had been parked and secured in the public carpark bounded by Woolley and Cape Streets in Dickson between 6.15pm and 6.45pm.

Crimestoppers: Police warn residents of carpark intruders – Braddon (30-31 July 2009)

ACT Policing has issued a further warning to car owners with parking in multi-storey buildings about their need to pay close attention to security after burglars targeted vehicles parked in a Braddon complex this week. Between noon Thursday, July 30 and 10.30am Friday, July 31, two intruders entered the underground carpark of an Ijong St, Braddon apartment complex.

Invitation to Comment: Ainslie park name proposal at Block 2 Section 87 (closing 28 August 2009)

ACTPLA (ACT Place Names Section) is seeking your views on a proposal to name the park bounded by Rutherford Crescent and Officer Crescent in Ainslie, Bill Pye Community Park (see map right), commemorating Mr TTW (Bill) Pye MBE. Bill Pye was a resident of Ainslie from 1946; he was an outstanding citizen who was extensively involved in his community. He served with the Australian Military Forces from the outbreak of World War II and then with the United States Forces, seeing action in New Guinea and the Philippines, returning to Australia in 1946.

Reminder: Sir John Hackett Essay Competition (Entries close 10 August 2009)

A reminder to all young people living in Hackett and in school years 5-12  that the Sir John Hackett Essay Competition closes on the 10th August 2009. All young people living in Hackett and in school years 5-12 are invited to enter this competition being held by the Hackett Community Association with the support of local schools and the Australian Dictionary of Biography. Essays should be: 250-500 words long for Years 5-6; approximately 600 words for Years 7-8; 900-1000 words for Years 9-10 and 1000-1200 words for Years 11-12. Expressions of interest are sought from people wishing to provide input into the future development of Exhibition Park In Canberra (EPIC). Members of the Community Advisory Committee will contribute information and advice to the Exhibition Park Corporation for consideration.
