Community Consultation Forum: ACT Disability Policy Framework 2009-2014 (3 June 2009)

The ACT Government is updating its policy framework to improve outcomes and opportunities for Canberrans who have a disability. The policy will guide priority areas for disability policy and service delivery through to 2014. The updated framework will build on the work of the current ACT disability framework, Future Directions: A Framework for the ACT 2004-2009 as well as assist in achieving goals outlined in Challenge 2014 – A ten year vision for disability in the ACT. Turner Seniors Club takes up the green challenge

ACT Minister for Ageing and Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Water on Thursday 14 May 2009 publicly acknowledged the efforts of the Canberra Seniors Centre in Turner for taking up the green challenge. The Ministers joined senior Canberrans at an event to celebrate the installation of 24 photovoltaic panels at the Centre. Invitation for Submissions: Inquiry into the Crimes (Bill Posting) Amendment Bill 2008

The ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services is seeking public submissions for their Inquiry the Crimes (Bill Posting) Amendment Bill 2008. Bill posting refers to the act of putting up posters, notices or placards on any public property like light poles, walls, trees, bus shelters, fences etc and on private property without permission of the owner. The bill proposes to amend the Crimes Act 1900 (s120) so that strict liability  applies to bill posting. A strict liability offence is one without a fault element, so  there is no need to prove intent, …

CIT Students looking to increase sports participation for children

On Wednesday 13th May, 1st and 2nd year students from the Canberra Institute of Technology’s Sports Development course, organised a “Northside Sports Gala Day” for a group of approximately 75 children from Aranda Primary School. This day involved the children getting outside and having some fun and simply participating in a variety of sports while also learning some of the basic skills of those sports. The sports involved were basketball, cricket, soccer, hockey and athletics. At the end of the activities the children were given a bag of goodies to go home with. Invitation for Submissions: Inquiry into ACT Government Procurement

The ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Public Accounts is seeking public submissions for their Inquiry into ACT Government Procurement. The Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee has resolved, on its own motion, to conduct an inquiry into ACT Government procurement. Government procurement comprises a significant part of the economy and in the case of the Australian Capital Territory, constitutes a significant part of the ACT Government’s expenditure. The Committee’s inquiry, amongst other things, will examine: the pursuit by ACT Government agencies of the procurement principle—value for money; the integration of sustainability considerations that encompass environmental, economic and social aspects throughout procurement processes; and the effectiveness of recent reforms, including amendments to the Government Procurement Act 2001 in 2007.
